Youth Education

Our Elementary Children Need Your Support
VOLUNTEER TODAY!
We need some caring people to volunteer their time in our 2 elementary classes, our UniKids (grades 1-3) and UniTweens (grades 4-5).  Teachers, assistants, and substitutes are needed.  For lead teachers, this would be a twice a month commitment, preferably for at least 6 months. All lesson plans and supplies are provided, as well as, ongoing training and support.  Assistants have no outside preparations, they are simply there to support the teacher and have fun with the kids.  Flexible scheduling allows you to volunteer according to what works for your schedule.  If you are interested in teaching Elementary please contact the office, or our Youth Director, Alysa Choquette at youth@unityomaha.org. Reap the rewards of working with our youth!
God is the Nursery-Wouldn’t You Like To Be, Too!
VOLUNTEER TODAY!

Of course, God is everywhere…including our nursery! When you welcome a child of God, you welcome God-and awaken the Christ within you. We need some caring individuals or couples to volunteer their time in our Nursery.  We can be flexible with your schedule to make this work for you.  Ideally, we’d appreciate a once a month commitment for a 6 month period.  However, we are always appreciative of substitutes that could help on a more casual basis.  Please contact our YE Director, Alysa Choquette at youth@unityomaha.org.

Spiritual Social Action is Reaching Out to YOU!

The Aim of the Spiritual Social Action Program is: “To engage the congregation in connecting with members of the community through events and projects to assist those in need, and to offer opportunities for spiritual growth.”

We are here to reach out to others. Donating to one of our projects, volunteering at one of our events, joining our team to be part of the planning are all ways to be included. You’re welcome to attend the Reach Out meetings. See Head’s Up for current times and events.

The Unity Spiritual Social Action Program selects special service projects open to the entire congregation throughout the year. Other projects are active on an ongoing basis. We attempt to balance efforts between local, national and international areas, age specific areas, gender areas, traditional projects and exploring new avenues. We try to support organizations with a structure in place to preclude starting from scratch and to better utilize our resources.

Pantry Donations

Nonperishable food, paper products, cleaning supplies and personal care items are collected in the wire baskets in the café for the use of clients at Holy Family Church Door Ministry and the Siena/Francis House Homeless Shelter. Your donations are always appreciated.

Monthly Prayer Service

A monthly worship celebration and prayer service is provided to residents of the Douglas County Health Center. People willing to participate with music, readings, and socializing with the residents are encouraged to contact Charlotte Renze.

Pottowattamie Jail Ministry

Classes teaching women positive ideas for living a healthy, happy, fulfilled life are provided weekly on Saturdays from 1-3 pm. Contact Rae Williams

Loving Actions

Loving Actions is a “gentle” reminder for adults to reach out to their family and/or community...an action that can be practiced all month and implemented forever. For the latest, read the Head’s Up and the signs posted in the café. See Sharon Schwab in the bookstore to share your ideas.

Periodic projects

These usually take place on a quarterly basis, often times coinciding with the holidays. Examples of past endeavors follow. Everybody is encouraged to participate whether you’re a team member or not

Unity’s collections of money, food, clothing, toys, blankets, school supplies, stuffed animals and personal care items have benefited numerous agencies with whom we coordinate. We’ve supported NE Aids Project, Salvation Army, Siena/Francis House Homeless Shelter, Holy Family Church Door Ministry, Sorenson Residential and Assisted Living Facility, Douglas County Health Center, Mission for All Nations, Samaritan’s Purse, Mystic Fest, Mozambique orphans and St. Joseph nursing home. Gail Gossman or Sandi Jenkins are good ones to call with questions since they’ve worked on many of these events.

Spiritual Social Action Program

The SSA team is a group of over a half dozen congregants who regularly provide a loving hand to people in our community. We've been very blessed to provide lunch at the Nebraksa AIDS Project on the first Friday of every other month, loving touch through hand massage for the residents of the Santa Monica house, and Thanksgiving baskets to members of our congregation. There is no feeling that compares to giving! We have some great ideas for other projects so new members are always welcome!

Local Past Projects:
Easter: Blankets for Sorenson Residential and Assisted Living
Back to School:
   1. Book bags and supplies for the Salvation Army
   2. Thanksgiving: Food Baskets for families

International Past Projects:
Christmas:  Shoe boxes filled for children through Samaritan’s Purse

Ongoing Projects:
Food and Clothing Donations: Food Bank, Holy Family and Sienna Francis House

Potential Future Projects:
Heifer International: Purchase animals for families in 3rd world countries.
Soles for Souls: Provide shoes for those in need

Wedding Team Volunteers
Do you slow down when you see a bridal party gather outside of church? Then there is an opportunity for you on the Wedding Team. You will be part of a team helping to take care of excitable brides and nervous grooms. You will assist in correspondence, showing our facility, at the wedding rehearsal, take care of last minute details at the ceremony, and ensure that the event starts on time. It is a fun and unique ministry to young couples. Please contact Vicki at 571-1344 or Vicki@unityomaha.org.

Ushers extend hospitality to all who enter our doors. Serving is a reciprocal gift of love arising from a commitment to our Community family.
